Field trip cost: €2,850

What is included in the field trip fee?

  • Transfers from and to Barcelona by van or minibus
  • Transportation in the field (4WD optional)
  • Field guide and course material
  • 4 nights of accommodation based on single-occupancy
  • All meals


  • All participants we’ll receive in advance by email the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) flyer, and a safety briefing presentation will be given prior to any field work. Please read and be aware of the safety recommendations
  • Please be sure you have the appropriate insurance in the Spanish Kingdom

Where and when does the field course starts?

  • The meeting point is the Cullera de Boix bar, located in Barcelona downtown, 26 Ronda de Sant Pere, near the Urquinaona hotel. Field trips start at 14:00h
  • The mobile phone of the coordinator, Lluís Ardèvol, is (34) 658 954 650; we kindly ask that the participants provide us with their mobile phone in advance
  • All field trips end at the meeting point around 18:00h, although a previous stop at the airport may be attended around 17:30h

Which hotels are used in the field locations?

  • Our headquarters is the rural guest house Casa Leonardo, in Senterada, where at least two nights are spent:
  • Other hotels are used depending on the itinerary, being our priority the typical rural hotels

If accommodation in Barcelona is needed, which hotel is recommended?

  • The hotel Urquinaona, our meeting point: 3 stars
  • There are plenty of hotels in the area. Other selected/boutique hotels within walking distance of the meeting point:

Field transport and group size

  • The number of participants per course is limited to 12
  • The vehicles used depend on the number of participants: from a 9-seater van to a 20-seater minibus and eventually 4WD’s

Schedule, meals and cultural visits

  • The breakfast starts at 8:00h, and it consist of bread with tomato and jam, cheese … (Catalan style) although any breakfast type may be ordered
  • The working day starts at 9:00h either with a classroom session or going directly to the field
  • The field work goes on until 17:00h or 18:00h depending on evening classroom
  • The lunch consists of well-provisioned picnics around 13:00h
  • There are coffee/tea breaks with snacks, refreshments and toilet visits
  • The dinner usually starts around 20:00h; home made Catalan cuisine can be sampled
  • Please inform us in advance of any special dietary requirements
  • Cultural visits may be included during the week (winery, dinosaur site, Medieval castle, Romanesque church …)

Classroom sessions

  • These sessions are informal and group discussion is encouraged
  • Many companies request dedicated courses for their asset staff and bring their own field data and issues to these sessions for discussion, which continues at the outcrop
  • All delegates take away a copy of the session slides on CD

Weather conditions and clothing

  • In May, June and September temperatures are reasonably warm, therefore adequate light clothing is recommended
  • Hat, sun glasses and sunscreen lotion are a must
  • Long trousers are more appropriate in areas of rough vegetation, though shorts may be worn depending on individual preference
  • In the unlikely event of rain or colder weather, a rain jacket should suffice
